About Our School District
About Our School District . . . . .
The Northeastern Wayne School Corporation is located in the northeastern sector of Wayne County. It is an agricultural area comprised of five small communities with a number of small business, but no industry. The school district encompasses approximately seventy square miles.
Fountain City, Whitewater, Williamsburg and Webster originally had their own schools. Northeastern opened its doors I the fall of 1967. The last consolidation took place in 1983 when Northeastern Elementary School opened in August of the year. Both facilities are located on the campus six miles north of Richmond on U.S. 27.
Northeastern Elementary offers full day Kindergarten and Preschool. One of the major goals of the primary classes is to have all student reading at grade level the end of the second grade. Northeastern Elementary provides Music, Art, Computer, Physical Education and Media to student in kindergarten through out fifth grade. Band is provided for interested fifth grade students.
Northeastern Middle/High Schools sixth, seventh and eighth grade classes are clustered together in a main area of the building which incorporates a middle school philosophy. This “School within a school” concept helps students make the transition from self-contained elementary classrooms to the structure of the high school environment. The high school academic and vocational needs are met through a variety of means: a traditional comprehensive curriculum; English and US History advanced placement classes; training at Ivy Tech for certified nursing assistant and medical records; vocation training through Richmond Vocational School; articulated or dual credit from Ivy Tech, Indiana University East or Vincennes University for selected courses.
Northeastern Middle/High School provides remediation for those students in need before, during and after school. Numerous extra-curricular activities such as athletics, clubs and theater are available throughout the year to interested students.
